KPMS: the power of active oxygen

Potassium peroxymonosulfate (KPMS) is one of the most powerful and versatile oxidizing agents used in professional veterinary and livestock hygiene across Europe.

Thousands of pig, poultry, and cattle farmers choose KPMS-based formulations because, once dissolved in water, it releases active oxygen, ensuring exceptionally high disinfection performance even in environments with heavy organic contamination.

With IGIENICLEAN, you get the same proven high-performance KPMS formula that has been successfully used for years on farms and in veterinary clinics.

Potassiumhydrogenperoxymonosulfate, potasowe 3-sulfotrioxidan-1-ide, nadtlenosiarczanu potasu związku; potasowy nadtlenomonosiarczan potrójna sól; mononadsiarczan potasowy (Oxone), potasu mononadsiarczan wodoru do syntezy; potassiumperoxymonosulfatesulfate (k5h3 (so3 (o2)) 2 (so4) 2) POTASU karonianu

Potassium peroxymonosulfate (KPMS), also known as potassium monopersulfate or triple salt (2KHSO₅ · KHSO₄ · K₂SO₄), is a stable white crystalline powder with extremely powerful oxidizing properties.

Once dissolved in water, it rapidly releases active oxygen in the form of reactive radicals (mainly sulfate radicals SO₄•⁻ and hydroxyl radicals HO•). These radicals attack the structures of microorganisms at the molecular level by oxidizing and denaturing proteins, lipids, enzymes, and genetic material, leading to the irreversible destruction of bacterial cell walls, viral capsids, and fungal membranes.

Main advantages of KPMS in livestock farming

  • Very high oxidizing power – remains effective even under heavy organic load
    (feces, blood, feed, biofilm)
  • Fast-acting – complete inactivation of many pathogens within seconds to minutes
  • Effective at low temperatures – ideal for winter use on farms
  • Chlorine-free – does not generate hazardous disinfection by-products
    (chloramines, trihalomethanes, THMs)
  • Breaks down into completely non-toxic natural compounds:
    potassium sulfate and oxygen
  • High stability of the working solution – remains active for up to 24 hours after preparation
  • Broad-spectrum activity: bactericidal, virucidal
    (including enveloped and non-enveloped viruses),
    fungicidal, and yeasticidal

Breaks down organic contamination

Damages the cell walls of bacteria and yeasts

Inactivates enveloped viruses

BIOSAN STERIDET / IGIENICLEAN – identical, field-tested formulation

The formulation used in IGIENICLEAN is exactly the same as
BIOSAN STERIDET, a product trusted for years by
professional farmers, livestock operations, and veterinary clinics
across Europe and beyond.

Kemper S.r.l. developed BIOSAN STERIDET as a multifunctional disinfectant
for the livestock sector, where not only high bactericidal performance
is required, but also strong virucidal activity and the ability
to break down biofilm.

Main applications of BIOSAN STERIDET in international practice
(according to the manufacturer’s documentation):

  • Disinfection of surfaces, equipment, transport vehicles,
and livestock buildings in pig, poultry, and cattle farms
  • Disinfection of cages, incubators, bedding areas,
    pens, and drinking systems
  • Air disinfection by fogging/nebulization,
including in the presence of animals when used
    at appropriate concentrations
  • Cleaning and disinfection of water systems,
    drinking lines, and tanks
  • Disinfection of protective clothing, footwear,
    veterinary tools, and accessories

KPMS broad-spectrum protection against pathogens

Thanks to its powerful oxidative mechanism, KPMS is effective against a broad spectrum of microorganisms commonly found in livestock environments:

  • Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including: Salmonella, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Fungi and yeasts, including: Candida albicans, Aspergillus
  • Enveloped viruses, including: African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV), Peste des Petits Ruminants Virus (PPRV), Avian Influenza Virus (AIV), Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV), Coronavirus 229E, and many others

High efficacy against ASFV and PPRV has also been confirmed under conditions of heavy organic contamination.

Compared to traditional oxidizing agents, KPMS offers:

  • greater stability,
  • lower corrosiveness,
  • no harmful disinfection by-products,

making it safer for both animals and farm personnel.

Laboratory test results and reference standards (selected standards and pathogens):

  • Bactericidal activity: UNI EN 1656, UNI EN 1276 (Salmonella, E. coli, Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas)
  • Fungicidal and yeasticidal activity: UNI EN 1657, UNI EN 1650 (Candida albicans)
  • Virucidal activity: UNI EN 14675 and EN 14476
    • African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV)
    • Peste des Petits Ruminants Virus (PPRV)
    • Coronavirus 229E (model virus for enveloped viruses)
    • Confirmed efficacy against Avian Influenza Virus and Newcastle Disease Virus
